Cable 8 Productions
is Recognized Nationally
January 21, 2008
Washington State University (WSU) Cable 8 Productions was recognized by the AEGIS Video and Film Production Awards for its popular and long-running show “Video Underground.”
The AEGIS Awards, one of the oldest and most respected peer-judged video/film production contests in the United States, recognize outstanding video productions and non-network television commercials.
“Video Underground” was selected as a finalist in the student category. Julian Sterbick-Myers, a senior from East Wenatchee, Wash., directed and produced the episode that was submitted. It featured in-studio concerts, live performance videos and original music videos, all produced and directed by students.
What makes “Video Underground” different, Sterbick-Myers believes, is its collaborative nature.
“A lot of what happens on VU is a mix of luck and having talented individuals,” said Sterbick-Myers. “When we do a show, everyone has input, and so a lot of ideas come out. It makes every production we do look unique.”
This is the first AEGIS Award for Cable 8 Productions.
In October 2007, three Cable 8 projects were recognized by College Broadcasters, Inc. The music video “Endeavor–Cacophony” brought home the award for Best Technical Production, while “Out from the Underground” was a finalist in the same category. “Little Town—Season 1, Episode 1” was also a finalist for Best Drama.
Cable 8 Productions is WSU’s student-run television station, broadcast from the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication. More information is available at www.cable8.org.
