Ph.D. Program Requirements
(45-51 graded credits, plus 21-27 dissertation credits, for a total of 72 credits)
- Core (15 credits)
- Com 570, Communication Theory
- Com 509, Quantitative Research
- Com 591, Qualitative Research Methods
- Com 521, Foundational Perspectives in International Communication (for individuals not in the Intercultural area)
- COM 506, Persuasion and Social Influence, OR COM 507, Communication Ethics Seminar
- Research methods (6-12 credits)
- Major area of concentration (15 or more credits)
- Three required courses (9 credits) within the College
- The remaining two courses (6 credits) may be inside or outside the College, as defined by the student's committee and/or advisor
- Of the 24 credits comprising the major and supporting areas, at least 15 credits must be from within the College of Communication
- Supporting area (9 or more credits)
- Three or more courses that form a coherent program supporting the student’s major area
- Courses can be from inside the College of Communication or offered by other departments, but of the 24 credits comprising the major and supporting areas, at least 15 credits must be from within the College of Communication
- Dissertation credits (21-27 credits)
Ph.D. Application Deadline
Students are only admitted to the Ph.D. program in the fall semester. The deadline for applications is January 10 for admission the following fall semester.
